Adopting animals is great, but not for everybody. If you have a soft spot for lost, abused, or abandoned critters but can’t take them home with you, there are still plenty of ways you can get involved.
Help shelter pets get noticed
If you have skills in photography, graphic design, social media, or web design, then you can help pets, and potential families find each other. Volunteer your services at your local shelter and help stray, abandoned, or lost dogs find forever homes. Your social media presence can help spread the word about the great animals at your local shelter, the needs of your local animal rescue, or general awareness of programs like free or low-cost spay/neuter programs.
Take a walk
Volunteer to walk the dogs at your local shelter. We can’t take all of those adorable doggies home, but we can help socialize them and make sure they get the exercise they need. While you’re at it, download the ResQWalk app and earn money for local shelters every time you log a walk. It’s just that simple.
Make wishes come true
Many shelters have a wishlist of items that they would like to have to make life there better for the animals and the caregivers. Check Amazon for wishlists from your local shelters and help make those wishes come true. Is the price too steep? No problem. Animals shelters always appreciate donated supplies. Everyday items like towels, leashes, toys, beds, and brushes are always needed. If you have a few extra dollars, pick up a few items and drop them off.
Help them get where they’re going
Many animals are fostered while they are waiting for permanent homes. Some of these animals come from high-kill shelters and need a lift to get to their new homes. You can transport rescued animals to foster families by volunteering with your local animal rescue. You can also help to make sure that the new homes they go to are ready for them. Doing Home Visits before placement is an important part of the adoption process. You can volunteer to inspect the home of the potential pet owner before placement.
There are many more ways for you to get involved. As long as you have a heart for lost, abandoned, and homeless pets, you are the right person for the job.
